Here are 7 main principles of barefoot / barefoot shoes:
- The toe box – not tapered or not hallux shaped
- Wide enough for your feet (measuring is a must!)
- Sole flexibility – both lengthwise as well as widthwise (any conventional shoe will bend a bit, but barefoot shoes will bend lengthwise
- Zero drop – no difference between the heel area and toe area – no heel, no raised areas, you know – zero drop
- Thin sole – about 5 – 6 mm
- No arch support or heel support
- Light weight
