7 Principles of Barefoot (Minimalistic) Shoes

Here are 7 main principles of barefoot / barefoot shoes:

  1. The toe box – not tapered or not hallux shaped
  2. Wide enough for your feet (measuring is a must!)
  3. Sole flexibility – both lengthwise as well as widthwise (any conventional shoe will bend a bit, but barefoot shoes will bend lengthwise
  4. Zero drop – no difference between the heel area and toe area – no heel, no raised areas, you know – zero drop
  5. Thin sole – about 5 – 6 mm
  6. No arch support or heel support
  7. Light weight
